What is the recommended cleaning process for ESD clothing?

Great care must be taken at all times when washing your ESD garments.

ESD clothing is made from carbon-suffused monofilament nylon. This is particularly sensitive to heat, alkaline/acidic solutions, softeners, and bleaches.

In order to maintain the ESD properties of the clothing, abide by the following rules when washing ESD T-shirts, Polos or shirts:

  • Ensure that you select a lukewarm temperature – either 30 or 40°C. Use liquid detergent at all times, such as Liquid Tide, Liquid Lemon Dash, Liquid Cheer or Oxydol. You must not use any laundry detergents that contain additional fabric softener or bleach.
  • Where severe oil or grease stains are on the clothing, stronger liquid detergents can be used, so long as they do not contain any chlorine bleach.
  • Ensure that all clothing is left to hang dry and do not dry clean!
  • Usually there will be no need to iron any of the clothing, as a special additive is used during the finishing process of the woven fabrics. The garments however, can be ironed, so long as only a medium temperature is used.
