What Are Wire Strippers?
Wire strippers are popular tools that can be found in the toolkits of soldering operators, electricians, mechanics, and many other professions. These tools, also referred to as cable strippers, offer the user a method of removing the insulation from a wire without damaging the copper wire inside.

How Do Wire Strippers Work?
Wire strippers will generally come with a series of holes, known as wire gauges, varying in size. These can be matched up to strip different diameters of wire.

Once the wire has been inserted into the correct gauge, the handles of the wire stripper can be squeezed together to sever through the plastic insulation that coats the wire.

How To Strip A Wire With Wire Strippers
There are a number of steps that you should follow, in order to get the best results from your cable stripping tool.

1. Firstly, you need to ensure that you have selected the right type of wire stripper for the application that you are undertaking. There are a range of wire stripper variations available including adjustable, insulated, sheath strippers and more. Also consider the diameter of the wire you intend to strip, along with the type of shielding on the wire and if any metal is present.
2. Try to match the diameter of the wire with the holes on the jaw of the wire stripping tool. It is essential that you match this up correctly. Too big of a hole can lead to the wire insulation not being sufficiently cut. Alternatively, if you choose a hole that is too small you run the risk of damage or even severing the wire entirely.
3. Open up handles of the wire stripper, before placing the wire into one side of the hole. Slowly compress the handles of the cutting tool until they can push down no further. This will cut the insulation of the wire. If the wire has not properly cut, then you can choose to use a gentle twisting motion. One quarter turn each way should do the job.
4. The final step involves the removal of the wire insulation. To do this pull the wire stripper towards the open end of the wire. This should pull the insulation off the wire with ease!

After use, check that there is no damage to the wires, or anything that could potentially lead to a hazardous electrical fault.
2. Check The Wire Thickness – The thinner the wire, the more vulnerable to damage they are. You need to ensure that you use the appropriate wire stripping tool for thinner wires.
3. Some Wires Require Professionals – The average person cannot use a wire stripper in every instance. There are some wires that require a fully trained electrician to carry out the works. Any kind of wall or ground installations, along with wire that is coated with coaxial, fall into this category.
