Hot Air Rework Stations From JBC

What is a Hot Air Station?
A hot air rework station is a device that is used to heat up and melt solder from a PCB. With the specialised tool additions, you can then detach the component from the PCB. These hot air stations allow you to remove an integrated circuit without the fear of damaging the component or PCB.

To do this the station concentrates a blast of heat towards the PCB through a tube. This can have different nozzle attachments also to concentrate the blast of air even further. When you are looking at taking on any desoldering work, a JBC hot air station is the perfect tool to add to your arsenal. This will optimise your process and give you the most efficient desoldering experience possible.

How Do You Use A Hot Air Station?
There are easy steps that you can take to ensure that you have the smoothest experience when using a JBC hot air station. The most efficient way to use your hot air equipment has been detailed below.

Step 1 – Placement
Ensure that you position the suction cup over the component that you intend to remove from the PCB. Ensure that you choose the correct attachments for the job, considering the extractor, protector, or tripod. Ensure that these attachments are the best fit tools for the PCB and component you are working with.

Step 2 – Applying The Heat
Upon placing your removal tools correctly, the next step is to apply the hot air that will melt the solder. By having these tools correctly placed you can apply the hot air and feel confident that the surrounding elements on the PCB are protected.

Step 3 – Remove The Element
Once the heat has been applied and the existing solder heated up, you will be able to lift the component off of the board with the relevant tool. The withdrawal of the component thus completes the desoldering process using a JBC hot air station.

Tools That You Will Need For Hot Air Rework Setup
When using your rework station, there are a few tools that you will need to go above and beyond your basic soldering set up. If you are working with larger more complex PCBs, consider including the following in your set up:

  • The hot air station itself - Different models of these can be seen in the product listings above. Talk to our team today should you need advice on which product best suits your needs.
  • Tweezers - You will need these when it comes to removing the components from the board.
  • JBC Attachments - These can come in the form of nozzles. Ensure that you choose the correct nozzle that is relevant to your task in hand.
  • Stereomicroscope – This is not essential, however when dealing with minuscule components it will always be a welcome addition to increase your accuracy. You can see a range of stereomicroscopes that we have available here.
