    What Are ESD Static Bags?

    ESD bags are a vital consumable for people and companies whom work within the electronics industry. They provide protection for static sensitive components and devices when they are being stored or transported outside of the ESD Protected Area (EPA).

    Static shielding bags offer a versatile solution for any static sensitive device, coming in a wide variety of sizes and dimensions.

     

    Choosing Your ESD Shielding Bag

    There are a few variations that you should consider when purchasing the shielding bags for your devices or products.

    Open Top Or Ziplock

    Your first thought regards the type of seal you require for the bags. We offer 2 types for the ESD shielding bags. If you are packaging a product or planning on vacuum sealing a product, the open top is likely your ideal pick. Ziplock bags are easier to reuse and obviously much easier to seal for storage around your workspace.

    Size Of Bag

    Another consideration you must take, is the size of the bag you use with your item. Consider the dimensions of the component or device you intend to place in the bag carefully. Ensure that you choose a bag that is neither too big or small. Avoid folding the bags also to accommodate a smaller device or component. Any creases may impair the static protection that the bag offers.

    Warning Labels

    For open top bags, we highly recommend that warning labels are used to clearly indicate the ESD sensitivity of the product that is held inside. They help to temporarily close the bag, along with providing clear indicators and acting as a tamper-proof protection for your devices.

     

    How Do The ESD Shielding Bags Work?

    Our ESD Shielding Bags provide what is known as a Faraday Cage effect, around the object that you place inside. This is a conductive barrier that shields against ESD.

    The ESD bags are comprised of 4 layers, each of which serve their own purpose. The inner layer towards the components is static dissipative polyethylene, with a layer of aluminium and polyester above this. The shielding bags are then coated with an outer coating that is static dissipative.

    These bags offer protection for components from static charges occurring both inside and outside of the bags.
