Heavy Duty Shoes
Heavy duty footwear are safety shoes that offer protection in several environments. These include warehouses, building sites, truck driving and much more. Main Requirements From Heavy-Duty Footwear
Toe Cap Compression.
Toe caps must undergo rigorous impact testing to ensure they are sit to standard. This makes sure that the shoe can keep the feet safe from damage caused by compression or when heavy objects can be dropped on it. Heat Resistance
Having heat resistant footwear is often a requirement for environments such as welding facilities and other factory floors that operate high temperature equipment. This is due to the risk of hot metal or other objects falling on the feet. The soles of heat resistant footwear must not crack or fall apart when exposed to temperatures of 300°C for periods of 1 minute.
Shock Absorption
Those working with heavy machinery or with exposure to vibrations would require a degree of shock absorption protection to reduce the impact over time on the feet and even lower limbs from their application. It is a requirement for EN ISO 20345 and EN ISO 20347 standards, where a shoe must provide a minimum shock absorption resistance of at least 20 J.
Puncture Resistance
Vital protection to ensure that the sole of the shoe cannot be penetrated by nails or other sharp objects. Tests are carried out on the shoe to ensure uniform protection across the sole of the foot. The degree of protection provided varies depending on the midsole material, which ranges from steel, composite to aluminium.
