How can I extend the life of my JBC soldering cartridges?
To extend the life of your soldering cartridges there are several factors that must be taken into account.
- We recommend to not exceed a temperature of 370ºC. Our extensive research into JBC soldering tools show that 90% of solder joints perform optimally at 350ºC.
- Ensure that the force you apply to the soldering iron does not exceed its own weight.
- Fresh solder should be applied before putting the iron back n the stand. This prevents the tip from oxidizing and corroding fresh solder.
- Correctly adapt the tip size to the solder joint.
- Do not apply abrasive surfaces to clean the plated area.
- Use a mild flux.
- Do not swamp your sponges. Instead keep them clean and damp.
- Only use an original JBC sponge. Any other that you use may contain substances that can lower the tip life.
- Do not use tap water. This contains a variety of substance that reduces the tip life of your soldering iron. Instead ensure that you only use distilled or de-ionized water.
- Ensure that you only use a tip re-tinner when absolutely necessary. When the tip is oxidized it cannot be cleaned using the sponge or other non-aggressive cleaning methods.
